Castell Henllys Trip 04.10.17
As part of our topic, we visited the Iron Age Fort at Castell Henllys and took part in Celtic activities, such as bread making, roundhouse building, creating jewellery and warrior training (which included having our faces painted blue!). We had a fantastic time and learned lots of new things about the Celts that will help us in class! Thank you to Bran and his Celtic friends for showing us their way of life.
We are delighted to welcome your child back to Fenton for the start of another busy year!
Please find below general information which may answer any questions or queries you may have about Years 3/4.
The staff in Years 3/4 work closely together and your child will get to know all the staff in the department.
Teaching staff are 3/4R – Miss Reynolds, 3/4TD – Mr. T. Davies, 3/4KD – Mr. K. Davies.
Teaching Assistants are Mrs Sanyal in 3/4R, Mrs Phillips in 3/4TD and Miss Thomas in 3/4KD.
It is always lovely to see the children wearing school uniform, and we hope to see the children wearing the red Fenton jumper as often as possible. Please make sure that your child’s name is clearly marked on all items of clothing.
Your child will have a reading book to take home on a regular basis and we would like his/her reading card to be signed by an adult after completing the book and returned to school.
We cannot emphasise enough the importance of your child learning the times tables which will support them in their mathematical development.
We place great importance on helping your child become an independent reader and we appreciate how you can help contribute to their success. We have a daily period of reading time and we read a range of texts in class. Please encourage your child to read to you and with you. If you have any questions about your child’s reading or how to help them please do not hesitate to ask. Your child will also have a reading record, we would appreciate you signing their reading record each time you hear them read. Please could your child bring their reading book back to school once they have finished it.
Games lessons will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for Years 3/4. All children require games kit to change into. As with school uniform, all P.E. kit should be clearly marked with your child’s name.
Games kit consists of T-shirt and shorts/tracksuit bottoms, jumper and trainers.
Swimming lessons will commence after Christmas and you will be informed of the details nearer the time.
Start of the Day
The junior block will open at 8:50AM, when children will need to come into class from the playground.
End of the Day
At the end of the school day your child can be collected from outside the junior entrance (outside 6V). Please wait outside the junior entrance, and a member of staff will be present to dismiss the children, unless alternative arrangements have been made.
Children can bring in their own fruit from home or they can purchase a piece of fruit for 20p in the junior corridor at break time.
We encourage children to drink water throughout the day and your child can either bring in their own bottle or buy one from school for £1.50. Your child’s water bottle will be kept in class.
During your child’s time in Years 3/4, there will be a range of visits related to the topics covered throughout the year. You will be informed of these visits nearer the time.
** Special Request **
During break times when the weather is poor, pupils have the opportunity to play board games indoors. If you have any unwanted board games, contributions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in making this a happy and successful year ahead for everyone.
