Summer Term (1) - Queen and Countries - How are we a citizen of the world?

9th May 2022

We have begun our learning about the Queen within the theme 'Queen and Countries' which will allow us to think about the Commonwealth and in particular Kenya, being one of the commonwealth countries.

We started looking at the Queen and learnt a little bit about who she is (we are excited to hold a celebration for the Jubilee - more info to follow in due course). We painted the Queen in the style of Andy Warhol and looked at coins and stamps.
Then we discovered a basket of different fruits which we explored, labelled and described before reading the story Handa's Surprise.
Following this we read the story and decided to taste all the fruits in the story! Cue lots of lovely describing words - sweet, sour, mushy, delicious - and some funny faces pulled while we decided which ones we liked and didn't like! We tasted banana, mango, orange, avocado, passion fruit, pineapple, tangerine and guava juice (as we couldn't find a fresh one to try!).
A lovely start to our learning about Kenya!
